Norwich Union is part of Aviva, the world’s fifth-largest insurance group and the biggest in the UK. It is one of the leading providers of life and pensions products in Europe and has substantial businesses elsewhere around the world. It’s main activities are long-term savings, fund management and general insurance. The group has 49,000 employees serving 30 million customers worldwide.
Norwich Union required a support agency for it’s internal communications strategy. Affinity New Media has since developed a series of internal comms projects that range from brand development through to monthly intranet production - all utilising a monthly design support retainer.
Intranet Design and Development
Affinity New Media, web design and database development specialists in Norwich were invited to submit design concepts for the redevelopment of The Pulse - Norwich Union’s central intranet site. Following detailed discussions, brain storming sessions and general functionality reviews with IT and Communications teams, Affinity embarked on a series of fully developed HTML design concepts. The new page structures were designed to create a contemporary yet usable intranet site that allows the thousands of pages of key content to be readily accessed by the entire Norwich Union framework.
Net.worx Monthly Intranet Publication
Affinity have worked closely with the Norwich Union Comms Team members to design and build the monthly publication net.worx. This valuable monthly insight offers Norwich Union staff across the county access to online competitions, team profiles, news stories and general information on the company in an ’employee friendly’ fashion. Strict deadlines play in important role in the monthly development of this rewarding staff-centric publication.
Branding and Site Development
Following Norwich Union’s acquisition of RAC and the joint success of the net.worx monthly publication, Affinity were asked to design a dedicated RAC intranet site entitled ’i-update’, aimed at informing both groups of staff with detailed merger information. Affinity’s design team took care of logo development and site styling giving this important information tool it’s very own place amongst the numerous intranet sites accessed by Norwich Union and RAC staff.
Leadership and Care Intranet
Norwich Union’s Leadership and Care programme is designed to offer employees an insight into what the company is achieving and where it is going. Affinity were asked to take this ethos across into a dedicated Leadership and Care intranet website. The existing Leadership and Care house style was extended into a highly stylised intranet site offering further information on the subject. Page designs and templates were created and handed over to Norwich Union IT staff for daily updates.
Communications Concepts
Affinity were asked to create interior design visuals for a corporate
communications centre. Featuring cutting-edge technology and design, the aim was to create a stimulating environment where colleagues could come together and hold meetings, research ideas, undertake corporate training and creative brainstorming. Through the use of the technology these communications could take place between different geographical locations and accommodate many people at any one time.
